October Wine of the Month: 2024 Broad Brush SORHONA Blend, Sonoma County
There’s a moment every fall when the air turns crisp, the leaves start to fall, and your dinner plans begin to feel a little more special.
The holidays are close. Soon your table will be full of family, friends, and the kind of conversations that last long after dessert. And you’ll want a wine that’s worthy of those moments.
That’s exactly why we created Broad Brush. We partner with established, respected winemakers who know their vineyards inside and out. They’ve spent years with the same soils, the same slopes, and the same grapes. They know exactly how to bring out the best in each one. We do the searching and the tasting, so you can do the enjoying.
This month’s pick, the 2024 SORHONA Blend, draws its inspiration from France’s Rhône Valley, home to some of the world’s most loved red wines. Grown under the California sun and cooled by coastal fog, it’s rich, bold, and full of warmth. Pour it for your guests, and you’ll be the one they thank for finding it.
In the Glass
2024 Broad Brush SORHONA Blend
Sonoma County / Mevushal
If you love a red that makes an entrance, you’re going to love this one. It’s deep ruby-purple, almost glowing in the glass. Swirl it, and you’ll smell ripe black cherry, plum, blackberry, and blueberry. Then come lavender, smoked meat, cracked pepper, and dried herbs.
On the palate, it’s rich, round, and full of life. Juicy blackberry and plum wash over your palate. Cocoa, warm spice, and just enough freshness keep you reaching for another sip. Smooth tannins hold it all together, and a gentle touch of oak adds warmth. The finish goes on and on, with violets, dark berries, pepper, and earth. If you love a ripe, bold, juicy red, this one is definitely for you.
Rhône Soul, California Sunshine
SORHONA takes its inspiration from France’s Rhône Valley, home to some of the most loved red wines on earth. It follows in the footsteps of California’s “Rhône Rangers,” the winemakers who first brought those grapes to the West Coast. Foggy coastal mornings keep the grapes fresh. Long, sunny afternoons ripen them to their fullest. The result is a wine with the depth of the Old World and the warmth of California in every glass.
The 2024 Vintage: The One to Watch
The 2024 harvest in Sonoma had everything winemakers dream about: a warm summer, cool nights right before picking, and not a drop of rain at harvest. Growers could pick every block at exactly the right moment. While 2023 grabbed the headlines, those in the know are already calling 2024 the sleeper vintage. This bottle is richer and more concentrated than last year’s. Drink it now and you’re tasting a great year before everyone else catches on.
Why Now: Your Wine for the Holidays
We picked SORHONA for October, but it really shines in the months ahead. November and December are coming fast. The biggest meals of the year are almost here, and SORHONA is ready for every one of them.
- Thanksgiving: Its dark fruit and peppery spice pair well with roast turkey (especially the dark meat). It’s just as good with cranberry sauce, stuffing, and savory sides.
- Hanukkah: Serve it with braised brisket, short ribs, or a holiday roast. Its fresh acidity also cuts through the richness of latkes.
- Shabbat and holiday dinners: Try it with lamb, beef stew, mushroom dishes, or anything slow-cooked.
- Gifting: A bold red with a great score and a great story makes an easy, impressive gift for any host.
Broad Brush wines are made in small lots, and holiday tables fill up fast. Order now, and you’ll have SORHONA ready between now and New Year’s. It’s perfect for every dinner, every celebration, and every “let’s open something special” moment.
It’s also Mevushal. Keep a few bottles in your collection for whenever you need a quality Mevushal wine. Hosting a catered event, sending a gift, or bringing a bottle to a simcha? You’ll already have the perfect one on hand.
Grab a few bottles. Future you will be glad you did.
How to Enjoy This Wine
Serve slightly cool, around 60 to 65°F. Give it 30 minutes in a decanter, or a few good swirls in the glass, and let it open up. It’s drinking beautifully right now and will keep getting better through 2032.
