If you haven’t yet heard of Broad Brush, welcome. Broad Brush is our way of showing a different side of California wine. Refined, thoughtful, and quietly confident, these wines are built on balance, restraint, and the belief that great vineyards should never be shouted over. California wines are not all big oak and juicy fruit (don’t paint it all with a Broad Brush!) There is a universe of graceful, nuanced wine here, and that is the side of California we are driven to share.
Broad Brush exists to challenge the familiar narrative. These are elegance-driven wines, shaped by site and season, not excess. We focus on vineyards that naturally lend themselves to finesse, and on varietals that make sense where they are grown. The result is wine that feels composed, expressive, and complete, without needing to announce itself.
The 2023 Broad Brush Syrah Grenache-Grenache Blanc Blend is a clear expression of that vision and one of the most complete wines we have released under the label. It comes from Paso Robles, a region that continues to prove just how beautifully Rhône varieties can grow in California when the balance is right. Warm, generous days allow the fruit to fully develop, while cool nights preserve freshness and definition. That natural rhythm gives us grapes with real flavor, natural balance, and a sense of ease that carries through to the finished wine.
The blend brings together Syrah, Grenache, and a meaningful portion of Grenache Blanc. Inspired by the classic wines of both northern and southern Rhône, the grapes are co-fermented to build texture and lift rather than raw power. Syrah provides depth and a savory core, Grenache brings energy and flow, and Grenache Blanc quietly ties everything together. Adding white wine does not dilute the red. The chemistry of co-fermentation actually strengthens structure and enhances the tactile experience, creating a wine that feels more complete than the reds alone ever could.
In the glass, the wine is expressive without being loud. Red and blue fruits lead, followed by gentle spice and savory undertones. The finish is long and satisfying, with no heaviness and no sharp edges. It feels confident, balanced, and resolved, exactly what Broad Brush is meant to deliver.
This is a wine that drinks beautifully now with a little air, especially at the table, yet it also has the structure to reward time in the cellar. If you’re drawn to elegance, or Rhône-inspired blends with clarity and restraint, this bottle belongs in your lineup. A slight chill brings it beautifully into focus.
This wine does exactly what Broad Brush set out to do: show how graceful California can be when it doesn’t try too hard. We’re confident this is a bottle you’ll come back to again and again, not one you finish and forget.
